No Man’s Sky | Corvette Expedition
In Might and Magic games there comes a point where you just know it’s about to end. Always an exciting yet sad moment to realize this. I had a couple of quests left and some new areas to explore.
It was time to go to the Land of Giants. One of the harder areas in the game. This would end up challenging me a lot. It would also be one of the more rewarding areas I'd end up clearing multiple times over in the long run.
First, to get there I had to head back into Thunderfist Mountain. It turns out that the massive network tunnel that connects to the Mountain region is even longer than I thought. There is another tunnel called Eeofol in the northern section.
Tunnels of Eeofol ended up being filled with medusa and behemoth. Up till this point, I had not spent any resources to learn earth magic as I did not see the point in doing so. However, with so many medusae in this tunnel turning my characters to stone. I had little choice.
I also went out looking again for Lloyd’s beacon spell. It would have been nice to save my spot when needing to leave an area for healing or selling. Still no luck on that end. At least it did not take long to go out and pick up the different skill ranks for earth on my sorcerer so she could learn the stone-to-flesh spell.
While in the tunnels even more strange things ended up happening once I returned. I was told someone's brother had been captured by the devils I was being sent out to destroy. He even gave me my second laser weapon.
It’s kind of funny and also a bit sad that at this point of the game, it no longer matters what kind of weapon upgrades I find or even if I invest further skill points into bows, mace, daggers, and so forth. It would be a waste. All skill points now go into blaster skill as that is the weapon that will be carrying me to the end game.
My biggest goal right now is finding another two blasters. I ended up giving the two I had to my caters. Since my other classes have the best bow and skills for them. They however would end up doing little damage compared to those who had blaster pistols to use.
Once I made it into the Land of Giants it was a massive struggle. The area was filled with dragons and titans. I would end up going on many runs back to town just to revive my healer every time she got killed.
More times than not. I would try and pick off one titan or dragon by doing some flying-by-hits with the laser pistols I had. If I could get one or two kills before having to flee. I consider that a win.
I ended up looting half a dozen artifacts. Most of them were weapons and not useful. A couple were some armor upgrades but I was already rather happy with the armor I had. So, it was a bit of a trade-off giving up certain stats for others that I slightly more use towards my group.
Thankfully I ended up finding a strange platform that teleported me back to Harmondale. While it was quite far away from the town and my castle. I now had a working teleport link between the town regions. Making runs for healing or supplies at least possible.
I also ended up finding the last obelisk I needed to open up a hidden treasure. After working out the clues all fourteen of them ended up giving me. I headed over to Evermorn Islands. Just after midnight around some hedge stones flowers appeared out of nowhere. They were the hidden treasure.
I was kind of hoping the treasure would have been better. Granted I did get over 100k gold. On top of that two ok items. One was a belt that gave plus five to armsmaster skill, fifteen might, and regenerated health but could only be worn by a male character. The other was a ring that gave water walking, feather falling on a female-only character.
Since this was an end game chest of treasure that would have been rather hard to rush since you needed to go to the Land of Giants. I was hoping for something more powerful. The weapon in there was not that great and since it’s not a laser weapon at this point it’s not useful to me anyway.
I then went back into the Land of Giants and started to slowly chip away more titans and dragons. I ended up finding some dragon caves. That was however not what I was looking for. I decided to save those for another day.
After exploring almost, the entire region. I ended up finding Colony Zod that had a boss I needed to kill. At least I believe I killed him. Along the way, I ended up looting another two blasters for laser weapons. After that, my group was must face melting anything that moved in the place.
This zone mostly had long winding tunnels. While there were a few devils to take out and I guess the boss I was sent after to deal with. It was a rather empty place. I did end up saving the brother that was trapped in there. He also had a key that I needed to get into the last room in the dungeon.
I then teleported back to Celeste to give them the good news that I had defeated the person they were looking for. Not that I ever noticed I took him out I just had so much firepower he was vaporized with anything else that moved.
They then told me something strange. I needed to remove all my gear and put on some wetsuits. They wanted me to go get an engine thruster part from a spaceship called The Lincoln. For those that don’t know Might and Magic. Yes, the people you end up dealing with are not from your planet, and there is always something about needing help to take out their enemy or get off the planet.
I ended up needing to go to their spaceship that was underwater. The defense on the outside had been deactivated. The inside would end up being another story. This was also the first time I found out there was a hidden region called Shoals that I could only reach by wearing the wetsuits.
The ocean I had to swim through to find the ship was covered in sharks that I lacked any gear to defend against. I just had to run from them. I did find one chest down there that had a strange temple in a bottle. I did not care too much for that zone as it seemed to just be some kind of fun little thing the game developer tossed in for amusement.
Once I got into the ship, I was half expecting this dungeon to be one heck of a fight. The robots inside were however quite easy to take out. I even found upgrades to the blaster pistols I was using. Making clearing the dungeon even easier.
Before I knew it, I had collected the thruster that I was tasked with getting. I then teleported back to Celeste one last time for now. Where there was a bit of an end cutscene and the final score.
It looks like they decided to shrink how scores in Might and Magic work. It could also be that I had to run a mod to get the game to work and maybe they messed up the score. They also no longer give you an address to mail off the score. I’m also kind of shocked by how short the total days that passed by in the game were.
I wish I could have gotten some screenshots of the final cutscenes of the game. However, since I have to window out to use a third-party tool to get a screen capture of the last window I was in (the only way to get it to work.) That would have ended the cutscenes and put me at the final score.
I’m also glad they then put you at your castle once you enter back into the game. While I have now beaten yet another Might and Magic game. There was one final run of dungeons and regions I wanted to make with my newfound power before calling this one.
It’s also just amazing the kind of bang for your buck you get with these older games even if I had paid full price back in the day. My single playthrough went on for what felt like forever. I still had not done everything there was to do in the game. There is also so much replayability if I wanted to play again with a different group makeup.
