I was about to go deep into the enemy's territory and raid their town, temple, and castle. I had a series of quests that would progress the main storyline further. It would be risky but massive experience rewards awaited me on the other side.
While the good side has the city of Celeste. The evil side has The Pit which is broken down into four areas. To be able to get to their main city first I'd have to travel through a small buffer area that is their main hall.
I was expecting much heavier resistance when I started to raid their main hall. While they had some things like harpies and zombies guarding the place. Those did not give me any kind of challenge. With a flurry of magic and arrows. Many did not dare to get within the melee range of my group.
What would end up being a much harder push turned out to be their main town itself. You would think there would be heavy resistance out front. With a more relaxed number of guards inside of the town itself. I would however be wrong in the lava-infused town that was covered in liches and vampires.
I started in the upper right section of the map. I’d then move to the left before heading further on the map. With some targets to hit along the way.
I would even need to pull back my attack and recover using the outer hall as a haven for myself. The biggest challenge seemed to be when I ran into king liches as they could do some massive area of effect damage. Even landed some knockout blows on my casters if I was not careful.
Each of the four areas the town is broken into has its little cave tunnels leading into sections with buildings and lava. I would often use those tunnels as cover while I'd send waves of arrows at a cluster of enemies.
I was kind of shocked that some of the buildings like the temple, blacksmith, and even trainer were willing to do business with me. You could tell they were not happy about it. However, gold is gold and they were willing to barter for it.
All the other homes I'd enter into were empty for the most part. You could tell people must have been hiding or they were on the frontlines trying to defend the town from my attack.
There was a lot of back and forth going on. Since I was fighting in streets that had lava on either side. There were lots of places the enemy was able to take cover behind. They also scattered making it hard for me to get a single devastating blow to take a bunch of them out at once.
The first dungeon I'd hit in the town was called the Breeding Zone. It was filled to the brim with creatures called behemoths and fire elementals. They looked like deformed trolls that had crawled out of a swamp.
It also had a lot of small creatures that would explode when they died. In large numbers with how low health, they had and how much damage any one of my groups could deal. I had to be a little careful around those creatures if I could not take them out at range.
At one point I had run out of mana on the healer. I had jumped down into a pit filled with behemoths. I could also not rest down there to get back any mana or to heal up the group. I ended up sitting around waiting for some mana from regeneration items I have on the healer. I then cast health regeneration on each of the groups before clearing further.
I had a random quest in there that wanted me to acquire a Book Of Divine Intervention for the school of sorcery. I was half tempted to learn the book myself as it was a 10k gold spell and I've yet to see one for sale in any shops.
With the book in hand, I found the exit and went back into The Pit to keep clearing the streets. I then went down another tunnel that teleported me over to the next section of the town.
It was a lot more of what I had already encountered in this section and the many after it. I’d be fighting off further zombies to liches. There were a bunch of shops in this next section that I'd visit. I was however just passing through this part of the town.
After it was cleared out. I then went back into the tunnel I came from. I was expecting it to take me back to the starting section of the town. Instead, I was teleported into a different section.
This new area had a river of lava flowing through three smaller sections that I went around clearing out. I knew from my quest log I still had yet to find the real reason I even raided this town in the first place.
I then came across the Temple of Dark. I needed to head in there and find a part of their dark altar piece. I had already gone into the Temple of Light and had acquired the light altar piece. Acquiring that light part, however, required no combat and just solving a simple button puzzle.
Getting the dark altar piece would require a lot more combat. This place was also loaded with loot. This entire time I had been looting quite a lot of stuff like rings, cloaks, and amulets. My bags were already getting quite full. I did manage to find enough room for a few chests in this temple that looked like this.
After I cleared the temple dungeon I had yet to find the dark altar piece. I then went through the dungeon again. This time I realized a giant fountain in the middle was covering up an entry into an underground area. After clearing that out I still had not found the piece.
I even went up to what I thought was the dark altar and clicked on it again. Thinking perhaps I was not in my rush to take out anything that was hitting me. I even tried to cast damage spells on it. Then I realized on the back of it was a small notch. Once I clicked on that section slid forward to reveal a chest below that had the piece in it.
I then went back into The Pit and the tunnels again. This time it sent me to what would be the last area of the town. In there, I'd find Castle Gloaming. The remaining forces were held up in this castle.
The dungeon was broken into different sections that required taking a boat through lava. The boats had a massive number of guards on them. It seemed they were trying to lock down the area.
I’d end up needing to do a lot of hitting and running. Sometimes I'd even need to leave the castle itself just to heal up. As I was not able to rest while in there. My main objective while in there was to acquire something called Soul Jars.
I have no idea what they are for or why the light faction wanted the soul jars. Once I had found the item. I cleared my way out of the castle. Then I found myself a spot where I could teleport back to Celeste.
While up there I turned in two of the quests I had finished. I was then given a third that required me to return to The Pit. Thankfully I had noticed there was an option to town portal back into that area. That ended up saving me a bit of a walk.
My new task was to take out someone called Tolberti. I was told he had a “cube” with him. This was also a sign to me as the player that I was starting to get closer to the end game. As this would be a control cube and things were about to get rather strange in the game.
I was also told to be careful. As it turns out Tolberti had a laser pistol with him. Not a weapon one would expect to find in a game like this or on the planet I was on. He was thankfully not that hard of a fight.
Once that quest was done. I returned to Celeste again and gave them the cube. I was then summoned to the main castle and told I should prepare myself as much as possible as I needed to head into quite a deadly area for the next main storyline mission.
I must have gained over ten levels from all the clearing and quests I had just finished. I’m just glad I ended up having a lot of gold on hand as I spent a decent chunk of it. I also cleared out the inventory of all my characters as they were full of items. Even a couple of random upgrades for them as well.
While I had an insane amount of skill points. I decide to hold onto at least 60 points per character. I had a feeling like you tend to do in Might and Magic get a new skill towards the end game. I did not want to be in a position where I needed a lot of points to level up that new skill and lacked the means to get enough levels to do so.
