Terminus: Zombie Survivors | Not Like This

the last night.jpg

Everything was going so great and that is when you know in a survival game things were about to go horribly wrong. I was running around looking for parts, books, and mostly food. I had enough emergency supplies I thought I could get myself out of any situation.

I was woken from my drunken slumber right at midnight just six hours before sunrise. A zombie had broken into the house I was held up at for the night. He was not much of an issue and I took him out. Then I returned to sleep to get some further energy to go and explore the next day another area.

While food and water had been a content struggle. I found myself with ample water for once. My food was however a bit light. I mostly had cheese and rotted stuff that would make me sick. I held onto the rotting food just in case things became dire.

I’ve considered doing some cooking. Every time I look however I either lack an ingredient. What I have would just make rotten food. It also looked like I'd gain less satiety and hydration by combining ingredients in quite a few choices. So, I decided to keep what I could have cooked alone.

During the daytime, I needed to clear out the house I was in. Nothing of great value was found. I did notice just how covered this house was in zombies. I was starting to get a bit closer to a high-risk area that I could not enter. It seemed like those zones seemed to increase zombies a few areas out.

I took out only what zombies I needed and then went on to discover what was next. The short-term goal was just to make it to a police station. I was hoping they would be quite stocked up on supplies. That would end up not happening.

The next area contained a library which I was rather thrilled with finding. I was hoping to find some books on quite a few things. I mostly found copies of stuff I already had. Including books yet again or sailing. I guess there must be a giant body of water somewhere. As I just can’t see myself needing that skill.

I killed a couple of zombies I needed to so I could break into the library. I then ransacked all the shelves. I ended up spending some time there reading some of the new books and other reading materials I had looted.

I had discovered from reading some new crafting, cooking, and even locations around me. I decided every night I'd focus on discovering as many locations as I could that I had books with information on them. I was hoping that would help clear up so many unknown locations on the map and make it a bit easier to try and plan out a route to safety.

I also just wanted to finish off some of these books to drop them and reduce my total weight a little bit. I was half tempted to do some backtracking to where there was a car and dump some stuff on me.

There was just one major issue with that idea. I was yet again about to run out of food. I would need to find a house or a grocery store at some point to restock. That or if I could find a garden and harvest some vegetables that would at least keep me going for a little longer.

After exploring a couple more areas I ended up moving west on the map and then back down south a little bit. I hit an area I could not get through and noticed there was a grocery store within a reasonable distance.

By the time I got to the store, I was quite low on health and needed quite a bit of rest to recover. I was also out of food in my inventory so that was not much of an option as my guy would end up starving.

The store mostly had rotted food. It was quite a dire situation so I ended up eating a bunch of it. This killed off my morale quite badly. At least I had some medications to help with getting sick from eating the bad food and low morale.

I spend a couple of nights there trying to recover my health. It seemed like the store was having an endless assault of zombies at all hours. I ended up drinking the last of my energy drinks that gave me some action points so I could escape to what ended up being a house in the next zone over.

I ended up using the last of my ammo and most of the weapons I was carrying on me at that house. I also kept getting a bleeding effect any time a zombie attacked me while trying to recover.

At one point I had died and was reset to my last point in the house I now felt trapped in. I had bleeding on me and two zombies I had to kill. I had just enough action points left to kill the zombies and craft a bandage. It was however not a sterile bandage so I got infected from it.

I tried resting the night at the house a few times but it was so badly crawling with zombies I had no choice but to take a risk and go to another unknown area. There I was hoping I'd find somewhere quiet to recover from how badly things were going.

the research center.jpg

It ended up being some kind of research center. At the time I thought that was great I could learn more about a type of area I've never been in. I had no idea the area would be crawling with hordes of researchers who got turned into zombies.

I ended up taking out two zombies and found some decent loot near the entryway. I could also tell there were more zombies in the building. While I needed to find a spot to regain some health, I kept getting attacked at any attempt to sleep even if just for a couple of hours.

My last attempt to rest was yet again a failure. There were now five zombies within just a short range of me. All I had left for weapons was a frying pan, a stone knife, and umbrellas. Yes, you read that right I had umbrellas I would end up using as weapons.

I ended up somehow surviving that attack. It ended up requiring me to burn through quite a few of the medications I had with me and my last remaining bandage. I just at this point needed to find a place to rest.

Final Thoughts

attacking the zombies.jpg

I attempted to move a little further into the building hoping I could just find a spot I'd be left alone. That is when even more zombies showed up. It was clear going into a research center without lots of ammo was a deadly mistake.

Once you are bleeding all it takes is a zombie bite and that would be the end of me. I ended up attempting to recover from this situation five times before hitting the dreadful give-up button ending this playthrough.

The best I could end up doing was killing off three of the four zombies. I then had to rest to gain some action points. By then either the zombie would bite me or I somehow killed the last one off. I was in such bad shape I'd end up dying from the infection I had.

Well, I was hoping this run would have been quite a bit longer. I’ll be making yet another attempt taking what I learned this time around and hoping to get a bit deeper into the map. The difficulty seemed to ramp up a bit with zombies in some of the new locations I discovered.
