Windrose Review

I was more than willing to be someone's blunt instrument of death. If that is what it took to get access to a dungeon. Rather this time around a tower. This tower had a couple of different levels to it and even an outdoor area in the clouds. A bit of a crazy place.

As usual, I was just wandering around looking for something to do. I noticed a hut in the distance so I changed course to make my way to it. Inside was a little old lady. She was having some issues with some local witches. Even better she was willing to give me a stone that would allow me to access the tower to get the revenge she always wanted.
This ended up putting quite a large smile on my face. As I had just passed the Witch Tower moments ago. I was also denied from entering into it. Now with the correct stone to enter I busted those doors wide open and started to burn the place to the ground with fire spells.

There ended up being three floors of the same size. While these areas were quite small. It also made it a bit fun to clear each floor out and then make my way to the next.
On each of these floors. I’d end up finding someone that was caged up by the witches. It seems the witches were turning children into goblins. While that was more than enough to free them to keep that from occurring. I also got a nice 5k experience bonus for doing so.
The tower itself was mostly filled with goblins to wicked witches. Any time I ended up resting was just to get mana back for my casters. Most times I was able to clear anything out of my way at range. So, the amount of damage I was taking was quite marginal.
There were also several skulls around the place in the walls. I ended up speaking with one of them and for a small cost in gems, it would teach me a spell. While these spells were quite low level like lighting bold. I did not buy every single spell when I could for every character that could use it. I kind of spread things out a bit once my gold had run out.
Speaking of gold. I was hoping this place would have been chock full of rewards. It had some just nothing insane. It seems like the amount of gold I got so early on was something I should have respected. It was easy come the first time. It seems I'll be struggling a bit on that front.

After clearing my way to the third floor of the tower. I ended up discovering quite a few cauldrons in the center of it. While some ended up giving me items. Others were giving things like plus one to all stats for a single character. It’s a shame there was not more of them.
I ended up just giving this one out starting with my first character in the group and working my way right. I had hopes of finding more of this stat boost elsewhere in the tower. The third floor however ended up being the heights floor. There was at least a much bigger outdoor section but it did not have any cauldrons in it.
The third floor was at least rewarding. Between the items, I looted in the cauldrons. Along with 7,500 gold in a chest. This would all not be for nothing. I even found The Alacorn which I needed for the quest.

I then made it to the outdoor portion of the tower. It was filled with lots of harpy to fight. These things I'll forever despite from Might and Magic VI. Just seeing these things made me wonder if things were going to go quite badly. Their curse ability in Might and Magic VI was devastating and annoying at the same time.
I also learned the hard way two things about this section of the tower. First, you need levitation. Second, it’s possible to walk off or get pushed off the clouds.
Thankfully falling to the land below was not a total group killer. As long as my characters were not in low health. They would just take some massive fall damage. I’d end up falling close to the tower. So, I just had to go back up all the flights of stairs to make it back to where I was.
Up here were also quite a few statuses that gave some kind of hint. Like a lot of things in a Might and Magic game. I had no idea at the time what any of it was even hinting at. Hopefully, at some point, I'll even know what or who golem, terror, and yak are.
It is at least nice to see there are still hints to be found around the game about other areas. Up to this point, it felt like World Of Xeen was rather lacking in that. It's also possible that I just have been missing such clues for other areas.

There also ended up being some items that I needed my stronger character to acquire. Thankfully he ended up passing the might test and acquired some weapons that were not that great. For now, at least it seems pumping any stat boosts all into a single character has been paying off.
There were also a few harpy nests up here. Each one I ended up destroying would net me 5k experience. While that seemed like a lot at the time. Once I started to realize I needed like 600k more experience for my next level. Such things started to feel not that rewarding.
I don’t know if that is because I'm playing World Of Xeen which combines both Might and Magic IV and V or what. At least it was something for my efforts. I can only hope the quest turn-ins for running this tower end up being a bit more worth it.

The rest of the tower was just lots more fighting of harpy. I then returned to the old lady. She ended up making each of my characters crusaders. I have no idea what that would even do for me since I could already enter a castle. She was also happy to have The Alacorn.
I ended up getting 60k experience for the quest as well. I ended up going to a town to sell off items, upgrade items, and see if anyone could be leveled up. One of my characters would. The rest still needed quite a lot more experience.
Dungeons so far just feel a bit different in this Might and Magic than other ones I've played so far. I still don’t know if they just don’t feel that rewarding as a consequence of this being the World Of Xeen. Perhaps whenever I venture into the other side again, I'll find things different.
