Hogwarts Legacy | Haunted Hogsmeade And More
Wurm Unlimited | The Mine And Base
It was time for quite the massive grind. I was going to need some high-level mining skills to get some long-term goals. On top of that, I was tired of not having a base to work out of.
I ended up lucking out while walking out of my mine I spotted something to hunt that could drop a pelt. Even better it had one. The downside is it was only 19 quality. With how low my butchering skill is I'll just count my blessing that I even managed to get a pelt.
This also meant it was now worth making a bunch of tools and improving their quality. In Wurm Unlimited to help get you started you get quite a few tools. The downside is they cannot be improved. They also just give you enough to get started.
Some just odd things need to be taken into account. When doing things like metal work I'll be needing a second hammer at some point. As it will come to pass my hammer will need another hammer to improve the quality. When that comes to pass, I'll just make a second hammer at that point.
I took all my newly crafted tools and put them into my campfire. I needed them searing hot to be able to improve in the first place. Now that I had a pelt my biggest limitation was going to be the quality of the iron I could mine.
For now, I only have 32 quality iron. Along with my lower-level skills and even lower-quality tools to improve my other tools. I spent a decent amount of time improving them with lumps of iron, polishing, hammering, using a whetstone, and so forth.
I ended up getting quite lucky. Most of them made it to quality 33 to 35 before I needed to further improve them with more iron. This for the time being I could not do since the best I could mine was 32 quality iron.
The iron vein I had found was not that great. So, I decided to further expand my tunnel. I ended up taking a couple of full carts of rocks out of the mine. Every once in a while, I'd also work on my prospecting skill to increase it enough to be able to further detect out locations of different ores in the mine.
After far too many trips using the small cart and the longer distance I had to walk to get in and out of the mine I decided I needed to upgrade. I also had a lot better tools now for farming wood.
I set my sights on building a large cart. A large cart can also use two horses. One of the reasons I decided now was the time to make an upgraded version of the cart I was using was that some horses spawned near my base.
This large cart could also hold a far bit more in it. I ended up loading some large containers into the cart to expand how many items I could carry out at a time. The downside of containers is they will combine the quality of the same type of materials. So, if I have a quality 30 iron ore and a 2. They will now be 2 units of 16 quality instead.
I then ended up spending far too much time in the mine. I know I should have started building a real base. At one point I had some decently high-quality stone and I ended up making a furnace on the future site I'd be building a base in.
Any time I needed a break from my long mining sessions I'd head out on a hunting trip or something else. At one point I started doing some logging in my local area collecting wood I'd be needing at some point for a base.
After quite a long day of rain and working on improving my tools in it. I decided I had enough. It was time to start building something. Since I did not have a lot of space, I decided a four-by-three was going to be more than big enough for my needs.
I then worked on getting all my tools to the mid-50s in quality. That should help quite a lot in increasing the success rates of different activities. While also giving me some decent-quality items when using them as well.
The biggest issue with being solo in a game like Wurm Unlimited is there are so many things you wish you could go out and do. Something that would help a lot would be to have a better belt so I could hotkey all the different tools I use for improving.
The issue with doing something like that right now is how many slots a belt has is based on a quality of 10. Every increase of 10 is another slot. I’d need to be made a 30-quality belt just to have something better than I already do.
Right now, I don’t even have 30 quality leather to do so. Let alone all the leatherworking tools needed to make a belt or the leather itself. Instead, I decided to suffer through the slow process of not being able to hotkey my tools. I knew with higher tools when I did make the tools used in leatherworking I could get to a decent quality.
During one of my hunting trips, I ended up lucking out and getting a quality 43 pelt. I ended up tossing out my other one since it was just too low quality to want to keep around as a backup. In the future, I'll be holding onto any that are of decent quality even if they are not better than what I have.
I also started to have so much iron from all the mining I was doing I was running out of storage space in my base. I decided to start branching out a bit and just leveling up things like chain armor smithing.
I figure I'll be wearing chain armor for quite some time. While plate armor is better you also walk around so much slower in it. That also requires making steel and for that, I'd need coal. My fire-making skills which would be used for making coal are quite low. So, the steel I'd end up procuring would be quite worthless.
At some point, I'll have to do what I did in Old School RuneScape and just make massive lines of fires to raise my fire-making skills. That was however one of a million things on my to-do list that I was always adding things to and not getting around to anything on it.
Despite all those things I started to think at some point I needed to be ready for an alt. So I started up a basic farm. While I did need the food from it. For a short while, at least my priest alt will be sacrificing crops till I invest some time in leveling up something better for him to use. I also need to make a priest alt but that would be for a different week.
Final Thoughts
While it felt like I got very little done. That could not be further from the insane amount of mining skills I got. Along with increasing the quality of my tools almost three times over. I even now had a little house to use as a base so I was no longer standing out in the cold and rainy nights.
