Windrose Review

After wandering around a bit and getting rejected from entering into a few dungeons. I found another one I could run called the Ancient Temple of Yak. I had even run into some hints talking of Yak in the past. So, this made me even more want to check it out.
This place ended up having a few hidden passage puzzles. Where I had to go around and move switches right away to get hidden passages to open. Thankfully none of them were that complex. Some even ended up just being a single switch. It was more about working out where a new path in the dungeon had opened up to take.
Some of them were rather trickly planned out in the place. There was one room that had a bunch of one-tile sections. Along with a tunnel that moved sideways. Requires you to spam back and forth left, down, left, down and so forth keys.
What looked like just one of the one-tile areas ended up opening up after I solved the puzzle. This led to even further switches and yet another passage opening. Thankfully there were some context clues of walls having blood on them as being the spot that would slide away. Almost like someone was not moving fast enough and got crushed by the moving wall.

The place was filled with skeletons, Cleric of Yak, and Yak Liches. Thankfully the Lich was locked up in coffins. I ended up attempting to fight them on more than one occasion. They did quite a number in my group. I decided I'd just leave them for another day.
I rather hate the idea of needing to return to a dungeon to finish clearing it. The loot and other rewards were however quite more important than fully clearing it. I would soon come across a very strange coin.
There were also several altar tables around the place. Once destroyed they gave my party 5k experience. While not that great of a reward. It’s hard to turn down such easy experience gains.

While exploring the dungeon I ended up coming across a few King’s Mega Credits. At the time I had no idea what they were used for. I had no idea how important they would become in unlocking further dungeons for me to run.
I’m also thankful items that are considered quest items go into their inventory in this Might and Magic. I can’t tell you how much I hated such things taking up endless space in the former games. This was a nice quality of life change.

It was also rather nice this dungeon was not broken up into a few different zones. It had a decent size to it as well. Lots of corridors to check out. Room to find fight and loot in. It was a rather thrilling dungeon.
I also ended up picking up a small number of stat increases. This place ended up being rather lacking. If I recall there were only two in the entire dungeon. While they also only gave a single stat of plus five. Over the long run, such things are going to add up. I’m still a bit torn between who I want to have certain stat boosts like luck and accuracy. As if I understand right accuracy is not just for melee weapons but spells as well.
Once I was done with the dungeon. I wanted to find somewhere to drop off the loot and find some further trouble to get into. I had parts of Rivercity in the past cleared. It felt now was a good time to further expand in there. As it is one of the larger cities on the cloud side of the game.

I ended up finding a back area filled with chests. Each of them only gave me a single piece of gold. The game sure had me tricked into thinking I had hit some kind of treasure trove. It was anything but.
While in the town I also had a nice little quest turn in. I had looted a pendant from somewhere. While just randomly rechecking any of the NPCs I've spoken to in the past. I ended up realizing I had another quest done and 80k experience gained for my troubles.

Part of an area seemed to be overrun by some kind of bandits. One of them was their leader and had a nice 8.5k gold on him. I ended up failing the fight three in the past. This time around however since I had gained a few levels and better gear I took him out. I also spent a little at the temple donating to get buffs.
There was quite a massive difference between when I had attempted him without buffs. Compared to when I had them. I’m hoping soon my cleric will end up having a large enough mana pool that casting group buffs will be something I can do regularly.
After the fight was over I noticed he was guarding a chest. The chest ended up having 50k gold in it. I had no idea at the time. That would end up being exactly the amount I'd quickly be needing. It’s a good thing I did not spend it all either.

There were several small homes to explore as well. Most of them were empty except for a single bed that I'd check for loot. Sometimes I'd find a rather easy encounter. I however fought off the most channeling things in the town I could find for the time being.
I ended up revesting some of the NPCs that sell skills in the town as well. Since I had some gold now. I wanted to make sure most of them had each of the skills. That way if I end up in a bad situation where I only have one or two remaining characters left. I still have the required skills to get around an area and hopefully make my way back to the temple to get the help of recovering that would be needed in such a situation.
It was nice to have yet another town fully explored now. Rivercity would now end up being my choice of places to visit for healing, repairing, selling, and training my characters. The trainer here had higher levels than any other town I've discovered so far. It also had all the services one would expect from a town which many of the smaller ones do not.

I was then back to wandering around looking for my next thing to do. Every dungeon I'd come across I'd get the same story that I did not meet the requirements to go into. It became clear I was missing something big that I'd end up working out soon on that front.
This is not like the last Might and Magic where I'd just run a dungeon. Loot a dungeon key. Then go run a bunch more dungeons. This required making progress another way.
At the very least now I have a bit of gold. Most of the spells I want for the time being I've already bought. I ended up gaining another level on most of my characters. Along with upgrading about five pieces of equipment.
