World Of Xeen | Unlocking The Key To Dungeons

Unlocking The Key To Dungeons.jpg

I’d soon be unlocking quite a few dungeons. All thanks to a rather expensive purchase and finding further coins. It all started with getting my own castle. There was however a cost for doing so.

This was quite a strange thing. In the past, I had run into a piece of land with a rundown castle on it for sale for 50k gold. I now had just enough to buy the place. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I just knew this place was right outside of Rivercity so it was easy to get to.

After buying it I found out I could not even go inside. It was that much in ruins. Instead, I was told I needed to find the King’s engineers. I was then not given much more of a hint than that.

I then went on exploring the lands for quite some time. Once in a while, I'd think back to what a king’s engineer could be. Then one night I crossed back over where Castle Burlock was.

I decided to go inside and speak to the king. He was not any help whatsoever since he just kept going on about me not finding the mirror he wanted. I decided to search the entire Castle Burlock to see if I could find an answer to my little riddle.

I then found him. Emerson the King’s Engineer. It turns out he would help rebuild the castle I bought. He however had a price of 5 King’s Megacredits. The same coins I had looted in the dungeon of Yak. I was also thrilled with finding a use for them.

I was also a little relieved. I thought for sure this place would end up being a massive gold sink. I would end up going back to Emerson a few times and just paying further coins for expanding out and rebuilding my castle.

I then headed back out to my castle to see the work that was done on it. They had rebuilt the outer walls leaving me quite a shell of a place to explore around. While I did not find any use in that alone.

There was something far more interesting. One of the workers ended up discovering a stone that would end up granting me access to Tomb of a 1000 Terrors. It turns out rebuilding this castle would yield me further stones to keep running dungeons.

I ended up exploring around the castle a little bit. Everything was still quite in ruin. I ended up finding some holes I sent one of my characters down. More times than not they came back with some kind of loot. Other times I'd run into some monsters I needed to clear out.

I then headed out for Tomb of 1000 Terrors. While it did not look like much from the outside. I’d find out the terrors were just my entire group getting cursed over and over again. Along with needing to take quite a few rests to recover from all the trap damage I'd end up taking. Spells like jump did not work in here to avoid traps.

At least one of the good things about this dungeon was picking up a lot of stat increases. My cleric would end up getting 10 intelligence gains alone from this place. Plus, I'd get twenty or so might. Along with a lot of other stat boots. The only downside is they would make my characters go insane from interacting with any objects that granted the stat increases.

As soon as I entered into the place. I had a choice to make to either go north or south. I ended up going north first which ended up being the bigger chunk of the dungeon.

This place was mostly filled with tomb guards. While I could not one hit them. They were not as challenging as I was expecting either. I’d end up weakening them up a bit with some hits of fireball. Then by the time they were in melee range, I just needed one good hit from my mele to take one of these downs.

One thing that would end up being quite important. I’d end up looting further looting enough King’s Megacredits to continue work on my castle. This in turn would unlock another dungeon as well.

Down the north corridor there ended up being three side areas for me to clear out and loot. Some of them even had objects to gain a small 5k experience. Most of those ended up just going to my robber since it was hard to tell what would be experience over just checking for items.

I then headed down a small corridor to the west and found myself another one of those tokens. Before I'd end up heading south to find yet another coin. Along with another two chambers to clear out.

For the rest of this side of the dungeon, there were two large chambers left after I started to head west. These would end up being filled with traps and a few stat boosts for my characters. This made it worth face taking all the damage since I could not just jump over the traps.

In the last room I was in I ended up seeing some strange bubbles on the ground. After I walked onto the tile with them on it. I was teleported back to the entrance of the dungeon. That ended up working out great for me as I then got to head south for the second half of the dungeon.

This part contained quite a few traps. I then found a single room. There were some Tomb terrors to take out. I then noticed another teleport tile on the ground. This ended up sending me to the middle of the dungeon to a hidden chamber.

This center area had smaller chambers in each of the four directions. I’d end up finding several more King’s Megacredits. Along with even further stat boots.

Throughout this entire dungeon, I ended up using Llyod's beacon to save my location in it. The town portal to head back into town. I ended up curing my group a couple of times from being insane. Along with uncursing a few of their items. The repair bill for this place would not be cheap.

At the very least. Once I was done. I had enough King’s Megacredits to upgrade my castle again. This got me Golem Stone of Admittance. A dungeon I'm going to have to do some exploring to find as I don’t recall where it is.

Final Thoughts

upgrading the castles.jpg

It’s cool to slowly see the castle turn from something that was fully in ruins to something that might have some purpose at some point. I have no idea how many upgrades there are or dungeons I'll end up getting access to. I do hope to find even more coins in the next dungeon and hopefully, this will keep going for a bit.
