Eve Online | A Day Of Playing
I had a couple of dungeons remaining and a wedding to attend. The levels would keep flying by and my gold never stood a chance. At least these final moments were amazing.
I was still on the lookout to acquire another ID to free the king. At least I had the Darkstone Tower key now and that is where I headed. Each of the floors of the dungeon ended up having some number in the middle of them.
This made them all a little awkward to explore. I also thought it might be a good idea to get a screenshot of each floor. As I could only expect these numbers would come in handy at some point.
Each of these floors ended up having gongs on them. I could not go up to the next floor without hitting each gong. That in turn would spawn some golems for me to fight. It’s kind of funny now how easy they are to take out. I can still remember the day a single one was almost enough to take out my entire group.
The first four floors of the dungeon were just me running around them to see what number would appear on the map. Hitting any gongs I'd find and killing a couple of golems. They were easy.
This entire dungeon despite me thinking would be some massive challenge was anything but. Once on the fourth floor is were finding out what numbers were on each floor paid off. I was given a basic math problem that involved knowing each floor's number.
Once I had a math problem worked out. I now had the last ID card I needed. The plan was to go to the next floor. It was however sealed. It looks like my plans changed into what I wanted to do instead.
I headed back to Alamar Castle’s dungeon for a quick stop at the final skull to use the golden ID key. The prince and future king were now free. There was still some stuff that needed to be done before he could have his wedding.
Funny enough. I somewhat recall running into King Roland in Might and Magic VI. If I recall I even ended up having to help out his prince. It seems I now have a history of helping out this royal family that goes back many generations.
Then I was off again back to the cloud side of the map looking for that net dungeon. It was right where someone left it in the desert. A giant talking sphinx told me I had the right key to gain entry into the place.
This place had some nasty traps in it. There was even someone willing to stop all the traps if I had paid them the tidy sum of 2 million gold. Since I barely had 200k gold at the time. I had to turn them down.
I ended up doing something rather silly. Since teleport would not work here, I was forced to use jump to get past the endless traps. That however was not enough. I’d end up needing to rest for every jump I'd make restoring my health up a decent amount. It felt a little bit like exploiting but I did not have 2 million gold to pay to have them shut off. So, this solution was good enough for me.
Besides the traps. This place was filled with dragon mummies. It was rather funny looking seeing any of them as I rolled down the hallways of this dungeon making it rain fireballs in their face.
As if I did not have enough levels. The second floor had quite a few plus five objects for me to interact with. Most of them were hidden behind some dead-end walls. So, they were quite easy to pick out. Even more so with the game giving its usual hint that there was a hidden wall.
A puzzle up there also leads me to the name Picard. I’m kind of not shocked they found some way to use that name in yet another Might and Magic game. There was even a mummy on the quite small third floor that was willing to do a trade with me.
The issue was I did not have the item he wanted. I still had a couple of unfished quests as well in the cloud map. After speaking with some of the NPCs it was clear one of them would give me the item I needed. I however first needed to help him.
I was tasked with needing to find some lava rock. I just hoped that it was on the cloud side and it was not in a dungeon where I somehow missed it. I then started exploring every title of lava I could find on the map.
I must have passed it at least a couple of times while I was flying by on the map. I ended up landing after pressing down the move forward key a few times a couple of tiles away from it. It then started to slightly glow. Drawing my eyes right towards it.
I won’t admit how long it took me to find the stupid lava rock. At least I was within a reasonable area of where I found it. When I first started my search. A bit of a shame I did not run into it without even knowing what it was used for beforehand.
I turned the lava stone in for some kind of silly widget. I then turned that widget into a chime of opening. With that, I was able to access the clouds of the ancients.
I returned to the Darkstone Tower and made my way up to the fourth floor. Where this time the barrier up was now removed due to having the chime. I could now go around the cloud level of the dungeon. There was this massive spiral inward. No creatures for me to fight or anything like that. The only thing to note was some resting spots. Spells like levitate to walk on the clouds only last so many hours before they fade.
I ended up just casting my buffs a couple of times over. Making sure I was not going to be hitting the ground. It would be quite a long walk back. The closer I got to the middle the more left and right pressing of the keys I needed to make. Hoping the game did not get input lag sending me crashing down off the clouds.
After all that running around in rather odd-looking circles. I was in the middle. I now had a Southern Sphinx key. I had no idea where that even would be. At least the name gave me a big hint that it would be in the south part of the cloud's maps.
The long walk was well worth it. I got to watch the wedding from there. A strange place to have a wedding. All the things I ended up having to do come together as well.
It turns out the people getting married were from different parts of the world. One from the clouds and the other from the dark side. With them becoming married they brought both parts of the world together. Quite crazy and had an interesting ending.
I now have my third and final ending to World of Xeen. I’m kind of glad they did not even joke about me being needed again and having to log back into my save. I did it for fun but I was left right at the part that would trigger the wedding occurring. It seems this was the end.
This was quite an insane experience and game. To think this included both Might and Magic IV and V was quite mind-blowing. I know there was a conversion of some other Might and Magic games into a single game. That one was not included with the GoG package deal I bought well over a year ago.
It’s also kind of crazy how much gameplay I'm getting out of spending a couple of bucks. Sure, it’s quite an older game. They also don’t make them like they used to either. I’m so glad I ended up picking this deal up when I did.
Next up in the Might and Magic series would be Might and Magic VI the Mandate of Heaven. That was my favorite childhood game growing up. I’ve talked about it a little over the years. I’ve also played it enough that I want to experience something else.
Thankfully the GoG package I got has Might and Magic 7 For Blood and Hornor. I was not quite sure if they would have only had some combined deal like they did with World of Xeen. That however seems to not be the case.
This I feel is great since I believe there was a conversion mod to combine VI to VIII. I’d rather explore these all on their own. This was also a time in the company behind these games was getting called out for not making their game “different” enough from the other Magic and Magic games. At some point, it goes downhill as they attempt to please the critics resulting in them going bankrupt and being sold off. I can only hope I got another one or two decent Might and Magics to play before hitting that mess.
