Might And Magic III | A Fortune Soon Spent
Outward Definitive Edition | The Fresh Start
Sometimes you just need a fresh start and I'm glad I did. Things ended up being so easy at the start that I wondered if I somehow had the wrong game setting on my other character. At least now I could ensure I did not make the same mistakes I did last time.
A game like this is created with the idea of making another character at some point. There is even a system to pass down a couple of items to the next character. That however requires a bit of work on both characters to get to that point.
I decided there was not much on my first character worth trying to pass down. I just wanted a fresh start. No trying to send him some starting money or items. This time I'd know what not to interact with right away so I could get the time I needed to be ready for what was coming later on.
Like before I woke up on the beach with nothing to my name and made my way to one of the first people I'd interact with. That would end up taking me back to my house. As soon as I left my house I was yet again greeted by an angry mob demanding money.
This time however I was not going to try and earn 150 silvers in the first five days of the game. I was going the alternative route. I just needed to earn a Writ of Favor from a tribe member. That as it turns out was going to be quite easy to do.
The only real challenge not getting killed at all. I ended up taking the tunnel that connects the town to the beach. From there I just had to run along the beach looking for someone that was injured.
That injured person would end up bleeding to death in a couple of days. This time however I was there to save them by using a bandage. In return, I got a Writ of Favor and I got to keep my house.
Since I knew I had lots of time. I also went and collected all the fish along the shoreline. I had plans to turn it into a special kind of food that would give me health, stamina, and even mana regen. I also needed a special kind of eggs and seaweed to make an ocean meal. It would however come quite in handy and make things easier than one might expect it to.
I then headed back to town for my turn in securing my house. This instantly took a lot of early-game pressure off me. I also made sure to not take any of the main storylines any further from this point. My plan was in fact to ignore the main storyline for quite a long time.
I dumped everything I had collected into storage excluding a couple of items. That I then went around the town selling. I wanted to buy a cheap little weapon for my next plans.
I then went into a cave I'd be doing quite a lot of runs on. While I would not earn a lot of money clearing it each time. I wanted some iron and some side quests done early on.
I then went around clearing off some of the easier beasts that were roaming the lands in the region. More or less anything solo I knew in this area I could take on. Unlike before I was always having to rest and was getting killed. I was killing everything right and left of me.
I in fact would not end up getting taken out for the first week and a half of in-game time. The special food I had more than healed me enough. I also was not running out of stamina from the slight stamina regen it gave me. This helped keep me from ending up in a bad situation.
The only real times I needed to rest was to recover burnt health and stamina. It was also night to make it daytime just so I could spot any dangers off in the distance.
When it was nighttime, I'd head over to the beaches if I could still get there at night. I needed a bunch of blue sand. The blacksmith in town could create special kinds of armor with blue sand and a bunch of silver.
I decided at one point to push my luck a little bit. I took on the nearby fort. To my shock I was able to clear all but the captain of it out on my first attempt. This place had some far better loot than the cave.
While my new armor slowed me down quite a bit since it was considered heavy armor. I ended up looting a special mask off a bird that gave me a walking boost when it was worn. So, I'd swap it out for my helm anytime I was not expecting to be in a combat situation.
The next big goal I was saving up silver for was heading over to the region that was desert and getting some passive with the trainers there. One of them reduced how much gear slows you down. Which would more than make my new gear worth wearing all the time.
I was also a lot more daring than I was in my first character. I ended up going into some dungeons I had skipped over last time. It was clear my character was not quite ready for them yet. I however welcomed having a challenge again.
Final Thoughts
Having the right start in this game made such a huge difference this time around. I now have a house filled with supplies and backup gear. I acquired quite early on some special gear that I'd be wearing for a long time.
I even managed to craft myself some weapon upgrades. Along with a couple of backups increase things go sideways and I end up losing them. While I had my eyes set on far more powerful weapons it would take some time before I could make that goal come to life.
