Old School RuneScape | Time For Some Achievement Diaries
While I have been getting some random achievement diary completions. There are far too few and mixed tiers to account for anything. I felt it was time to head out and start knocking out some of the easy-tier ones.
I have not fully wrapped my mind around all the different rewards for completing different diaries. At its core, however, you can’t finish a higher tier one without first finishing the tiers below them. So that is at least a place to start.
On top of that, I was a bit shocked at how much the requirements jump from easy to just medium diaries. It’s also not helping I've been slacking in a few different skills. I felt however this would be a good place to start.
I doubt I will be working on any hard-to-elite diary completions for quite some time. I might have seen one hard completion out of nowhere for a single task. So, I'm not even going to look at them for the time being.
Diaries also end up being a lot bigger than I was expecting. They are broken down into different regions. There are twelve separate regions including the Wilderness which I don’t see myself doing any time soon.
Twelve regions each with four different tiers. That is just insanity. It also makes the game feel quite massive. By the way the more I explore the game the more I realize I have so much more to explore.
These things even have requirements to be able to do in the first place. While many of them have a skill requirement. Some have questing as well. Thankfully I have been doing an insane amount of questing so on the easier side of things that is not what should be holding me back.
This time around I decided I'd just focus on some of the easier of the easy ones. I ended up fishing off the easy tier for Lumbridge, Ardougne, Varrock, and Karamja.
In the future, I might decide to dive deeper into the rewards and start focusing on things that are a bit more worthwhile. That however requires a much deeper understanding of what I'll need. For the time being, I'm just fine with what rewards I get. It’s not like I need an increase in thieving or herb gathering in certain regions today.
Lumbridge And Draynor
Of all the places I spent the most time this part of the game still has to be up there. If you are not including the amount of time I've spent in Varrock next to the Grand Exchange. When I was a non-member, this used to be a huge part of where I could do things.
I also did happen to have a few things already worked on. Most of the things to do were also quite low-level requirements. The only thing I was lacking at one point in time was the level seven slayer. I have since long acquired a higher skill than that in Slayer.
One thing I already had done was using the Draynor rooftop course. This place was amazing for leveling up agility while it was low-level. This also would not be the only rooftop course I'd be doing that would grant a diary achievement.
Despite my love for caves. Oddly enough there was a cave I had yet to venture into for this region. I needed to go in and slay a bug. That bug did require having a certain slayer level. Otherwise, you could not attack it.
While I have done quite a bit of fishing in the past. This region of the game was not one where I have fished much of anything. While this would not be my first anchovies I've fished for. I can only hope it will be my last.
There were nine other achievements regarding this diary. Many I had already done. Others like crafting a water rune, pocking a certain NPC, and learning my account age. Were quickly finished off without having to go far in the region.
The reward for this region is a ring that gets upgraded the higher the diary you complete. I found the rewards for the easy tier to not be worth my time. As Explorer’s Ring 1 gives 30 casts rune free of low-level alchemy which is not worth using.
In addition, the ring can restore my run energy twice by 50% in a given day. Needless to say, even when I was wearing the ring before I had something much better. I never used the energy restore. I’m also so pressed for inventory space I would not dare keep it around for just-in-case uses. So, it sits in the bank. Perhaps one day the higher tiers of this diary reward will make it worth using.
At the very least at the end, I got a lamp as well worth 2,500 experience. At this stage of things that is not much. It was at least better than nothing.
Ardougne
Despite Ardougne being quite a faraway place from where I've spent much of my time in this game. This one ended up being so easy I ended up running over to it and just knocking it out.
You can do almost all of the easy dairy achievements here outside of needing level 5 thieving and two quests completed. Which makes it so easy. Many of them just require you to spend a very small amount of gold on items.
At least one of the cool things about doing this area is I learned there is such a thing as pet insurance. Also no. I have not insured my four cats. There is a reason I have four of them in this game. Just in case something happens. That is enough insurance for me alone.
Perhaps the only easy achievement diary I was dreading happened to be in this region. You had to pull a lever which was so easy to do. It then sent you to the wilderness. Thankfully I knew about that ahead of time so I ended up banking all my items. While no one killed me for my short stay there. I don’t care much for the wilderness and have only been there once or twice in the past if that.
Otherwise, everything else in this region was quite tame. I needed to do things like steal a cake, buy silk, and go out fishing. Among many other things. I’m kind of shocked I had so much to do in this region. Many of those would have been easy to just stumble on without even knowing about them.
As far as the rewards. Perhaps the biggest thing was getting a cloak that teleports you to Ardougne. Grants It’s not as big of a deal as it would have been if I had gotten it a while back. Still, it’s nice to have if I did not forget about it in the bank every time I'm out here.
Varrock
I get a bit of a feeling a big part of these diaries is just to point out such minor details that are easy to not even notice. I don’t know how many times I've walked past this newsstand without realizing what it was. Let alone that I had never even bought a newspaper from it.
There were many achievements I already had done for this one. So, this one ended up being quite easy to finish off. I had already done things like make a plank at the sawmill, mine iron at the mine, use a fence shortcut, and speak to several NPCs around the city.
At the very least I got to steal some tea from a stall in the middle of the town. I never thought I'd be doing that for an achievement in a game. I suppose if there were any games with such an achievement, they would just be stealing the idea from this game since it did it first.
Of all the rewards that different diaries give this one annoys me the most. Every time I log in I'm informed Zaff has battlestaves for sale for me. It would be one thing if they were selling below the high alchemy price. It is something if they were selling for more than the 7k this vendor wants to charge me for them. At this current moment, they are worthless and yet every time I log in I get spammed with messages about it.
At the very least I also get a piece of armor that grants me a chance of mining double low-level ores. Hopefully, when I do get around to mining some lower-tier ores I won’t forget that chest in the bank.
Karamja
The one I did not see myself going after so soon ended up being this one. I had some quest that I don’t recall what it even was at the time. Anyway, I had gotten a random notification that I had just done an achievement. At the time I was like why not go and finish off the rest for this area? I might not be back here for quite some time. So, I did.
These things also just go to show me how little I've ever done let alone seen of the game. I don’t know how many countless times I've opened up the map for this region and seen the volcano. Never once did I think I should go down there and see what was waiting for me. It turns out an achievement.
I have done quite a few of these without even realizing it. There were a couple for using the boats to get to Karamja. Before I had unlocked the fairy rings that was the only way I got to the island.
For some strange reason, they have you kill a level 56! That seems a bit high of a level for easy diaries. Not that I had any issues doing so. I ended up going on a bit of a killing spree as a breakdown here before finishing off a couple of remaining diaries I had left.
I also got to say some of the achievements were just fun to do. I ended up needing to use some rope swing to get to a tiny island that had quite a few nasty-looking giants on it. It’s a shame I did not stick around long enough to see if they wanted a fight.
If you have ever noticed glove slot has always been a challenging one for me. Most glove sets are locked away to a high requirement to get. So, I have been using something silly like d’hide vambrace.
This achievement diary on Easy gave me the reward of gloves that have icons of chickens. For a short while, I ended up even wearing them. I however did end up finding some much better gloves. So, these went right into the bank to never be seen again.
Final Thoughts
I was not shocked most if not all the rewards I'd be getting from easy diaries were not worth my time. Sure, I got some experience lamps that I put into rune crafting. These were at least something fun to do and I still have quite a few more easy ones to do for other regions.
