Old School RuneScape | Fun In Kourend

Fun In Kourend.jpg

While I was mostly heading back to Kourend to gather some pages for a book. I ended up finishing off some other activities while I was there. It is also a bit more of a darker-themed area, so I always find it fun to explore the region.

The Depths Of Despair

A little while back I finished collecting an item called Kharedst’s Memoirs. It is a book that was missing a bunch of pages. At that time, I had no idea what it was for, so I just tossed it into the bank as something I'd investigate at a later point in time.

It turns out those pages can be used to teleport to different sections of Kourend. That book can also be worn. Even better it can be upgraded. I, however, still lack many of the requirements to take on the quest to upgrade the book. So far now I'd just be focusing on getting the five missing pages. The first of which I'd be getting was from The Depths Of Despair.

For the most part, many of these quests were just lots of running around. They were also rather quick and other than upgrading the book quest. They had low requirements to start them.

I ended up speaking with Lord Kandur of the house Hosidius and he told me one of his sons went missing. Who I'd later find after some exploring around in a cave. He was trapped by a snake which I ended up killing. Allowing him to return and for me to pick up a page that I wanted for the book.

Queen Of Thieves

This one was rather short. I was just given the task of finding out who a bunch of criminals was calling the Queen of Thieves. A rather straight and something easy to do at least I thought.

Let’s just say one thing led to another. I ended up murdering someone. I’m sure they deserved it. All that matters is I ended up unlocking a place called the Warrens to finish this quest. I also got another page I was after.

Which should show anyone hiding further pages, so I do not get between myself and those pages. As it’s now clear I'll murder for them! Ok, so I was getting a bit bored with all the running around. An opportunity arrived to kill someone. I was not going to turn it down.

Tale Of The Righteous

For this next one, I ended up needing to go into mountain Quidamortem. Someone that I've never heard about that no one cares about once led a team to go exploring in that mountain and was never seen again.

I was fully expecting to bring back a corpse on this one. That is why I was not shocked when I ended up finding some skeletons remaining. I was also hoping that would be the end of things.

However wrong I was. There was some odd writing left behind near the corpse. After reporting that news I was then tasked with going on the same adventure as the dead guy once did.

While inside I had to do battle with a lizard. It was such an easy fight I'm not even sure how anyone would have felt threatened let alone allowed themselves to be captured by such a creature. Somehow the world was a better place without it and I ended up getting the next page I was looking for. The poor creature I killed only had like 60 health which did not take me long to break down to zero.

I guess at the stage of the game I'm at I was expecting far more of a fight. I ended up bringing lots of food that I never needed.

The Forsaken Tower

All someone had to tell me is I got to go on an adventure in a tower called The Forsaken. I was hoping for lots of killing. Instead, I learned the word forsaken was referring to the number of mini-games and tasks that needed to be performed while in the tower.

I will spare you all the gory details about how many times I had to fill a 5-gallon jug and pour it into an 8-gallon jug. Moving things around on a circuit to get energy flowing through it. Along with picking the correct fluid on a table. Don’t even get me started with the floor that had the pylon puzzle on it.

Sometime later sanity was lost. I found myself holding another page of the book. I also for some strange reason never need to pay the small fee to ride the minecars around Kourend. This also happened to be during this quest when I learned there were minecarts in this region and I could use them for transpiration.

The Ascent Of Arceuus

Like many quests, I end up going for. As I'm about to start them I realize I was just a couple of levels short of a requirement. So with my mind set on getting the last page I wanted. I ended up taking a break from these quests to go grind out some remaining levels. Not that I needed yet another thing to go work on when I have so many other things to keep in mind.

I was tasked with working out how someone died. I guess that is a big deal for the kinds of people I was dealing with. It was also a big deal of people keeping things to themselves as that kept being a roadblock I'd run into on this one.

At least during this quest, I got to go and kill some low-level tormented souls. Just how I was feeling at the time after having returned to work on a skill I couldn’t stand. Along with NPCs not willing to play the helping hand needed to speed things along.

In the end, I got the fifth and last page I wanted. I then combined them all into Kharedst’s Memoirs Book. I then promptly dropped the book into a bank and allowed it to collect dust for some time. Forgetting all about it. As one should.

Gaining Some Magic Experience

searching for books.jpg

While I was in the library working on some of the stuff above. I ended up picking up an extra book. Later I'd try to bank it and I had no luck doing so. It seemed to be I had acquired quite a strange book, so I ended up returning to the library.

That is when I noticed I could help out by finding different books for different people within the library. I ended up walking around searching bookshelves till my inventory was nearly full. I then turned in a couple of books.

While I had no use for most books I collected. Of the ones I had that someone was looking for they ended up exchanging me the book for a Book Of Arcane Knowledge which I used to gain some further magic experience. I almost gained a full level which was great since I've been needing to level up my magic a little further than it currently is.

Bear Your Soul

talking at the alter.jpg

Before leaving Kourend with no idea how long it would be before I'd return. I decided I'd work on one more thing that looked quite fast to finish. While it would not yield a quest point let alone an item, I'd have no use for now. I was just looking around for an excess to spend a little more time here.

I needed to find an item called a soul bearer and get it fixed. This required mostly traveling around. I ended up back in the library looking for a book called The Journey Of Souls. I then went off to talk to the person who wrote it.

That ended up leading me to go digging in a church. I know all that about scared ground and digging in a church. To make matters worse it did feel like I was at gave site even more once I found a skull-looking object. It was, however, damaged and needed repair.

That led me on quite a bit of a journey to speak to the Key Master who offered to repair it. Thankfully I already had a dusty key in my bank which would allow me into Taverley Dungeon.

My agility level allowed me to use one of the shortcuts while in Taverley Dungeon. For some of the bigger shortcuts, I was falling short of a couple of levels or more. Reminding me at some point I need to spend some time leveling up my agility even further. It’s, however, quite low on my priority list for the time being.

Final Thoughts

I ended up collecting some items from this. I’m not sure if I'll ever end up using any of them or when I will. It was at least nice to make some progress in an area I don’t tend to be in.
